The Legend of Maula Jatt is a 2022 Pakistani Punjabi language action drama film that was produced by Ammara Hikmat and Dr. Asad Jamil Khan under the production company Encyclopedia. It was directed and written by Bilal Lashari. It is a replica of the cult favorite Maula Jatt from 1979. Fawad Khan plays the title role in the movie alongside Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malik, and Mahira Khan.
The movie opened in theatres on October 13, 2022.

Development
Bilal Lashari revealed on December 14, 2013, that he will be directing Maula Jatt in an interview with The Express Tribune. He said, "This will be my take on gandasa flicks which are blamed for the death of Lollywood. What better way to use the gandasa genre than to pay respect to the iconic film Maula Jatt, in my opinion, than in Pakistani cinema? Hamza Ali Abbasi began working out to improve his muscle symmetry, proportion, endurance, and cardiovascular health in order to better fit the part.
On April 4, 2014, Lashari made the announcement that the film's script was now complete and that he was searching for a starring actor. He remarked, "I want to spend more time on Maula Jatt's script because Waar was praised for its artistic components but was critiqued for its storyline." The cast was picked and filming for the movie, which will be released in three languages—English, Urdu, and Punjabi—began on May 27, 2014.
Casting and production
Hamza Ali Abbasi revealed each member of the cast one by one. Adnan Jaffar and Shamoon Abbasi were cut from the cast on Bilal Lashari's recommendation on November 16, 2016, when Asad Jamil Khan and Ammara Hikmat took over the production. Lashari revealed in March 2015 that he would begin filming the movie in Lahore. He indicated that the dialogue will be taken from a 1979 movie, but the story will be entirely fresh, unlike the first portion. On January 8, 2016, it was made known that Fawad Khan would play Maula Jatt opposite Hamza Ali Abbasi's Noori Nath. The Red Epic W camera was used to capture the movie.
Release
With an Eid ul-Fitr 2019 release date, the movie's trailer debuted on December 21 to favorable reviews.
However, the 1979 film's producer filed a copyright complaint, which caused the distribution to be delayed. The film was supposed to be released in Pakistan and China simultaneously on Eid Al Fitr 2020 after the two parties achieved a resolution in February 2020, but this has been postponed indefinitely owing to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The movie's release date was believed to be September 30, 2022, in July 2022. It was finally confirmed that the movie will be released on October 13, 2022, following several delays.
