A 2022 American superhero movie called Black Adam is based on the same-named DC Comics character. It is a spin-off of Shazam! (2019) and the eleventh movie in the DC Extended Universe, and it was made by New Line Cinema, DC Films, Seven Bucks Productions, and FlynnPictureCo (DCEU). The movie, which is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and has a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, also stars Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan. Dwayne Johnson plays the title role.
Black Adam's villainous role was confirmed for Johnson to play in Shazam! early in the film's development, but the producers ultimately chose to give the role its own movie. Sztykiel started working there in October 2017. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the release date for Collet-Serra, who entered in June 2019, to be postponed from December 2021. Over the course of the following year, additional casting took place, notably for JSA members, and Haines and Noshirvani revised the script. April to August 2021 saw filming in Trilith Studios in Los Angeles and Atlanta, Georgia.
Premise
Black Adam, an antihero from the ancient city of Kahndaq, is released into the present day after over 5,000 years in jail. The Justice Society of America notices him because of his brusque methods and sense of justice, and they work together to try to put an end to his rampage, educate him on how to be a hero instead of a villain, and defeat an opponent who is more powerful than Adam himself.
Production
Development
By January 2009the movie's production was put on hold, however, by April 2014 Warner Bros.,(New Line's parent company) and DC started preparing a line-up of superhero movies for their shared universe, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Pre-production
The COVID-19 pandemic, according to Johnson, caused a delay in filming, and they now want to start shooting in August or September of that year.
In Atlanta, Georgia, shooting was anticipated to start in early 2021 by July. Noah Centineo was chosen to play Atom Smasher. Johnson announced that in addition to Atom Smasher, the JSA in the movie would also include Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Cyclone during the virtual DC FanDome event in August. In the beginning, Hawkgirl was a part of the group, but for a convoluted reason, she was ultimately unable to be utilized in the movie and was swapped out for Cyclone.
Filming
Filming started on April 10, 2021, with Lawrence Sher serving as the cinematographer at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, filming was postponed from its original July 2020 start date. On June 20, 2021, Johnson stated that there were three weeks of filming remaining, and on July 15, he declared that he had finished shooting his scenes. After transferring to Los Angeles, the production resumed filming for a few weeks without Johnson and finished by August 15.
This is Henry Cavill's first time filming as Superman since Justice League (2017); the character was portrayed by stand-ins for his roles in Shazam! (2019) and the HBO Max series Peacemaker. Cavill reprises his Superman role from earlier DCEU movies. Cavill appeared in Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) with pre-recorded footage. In the renegotiations between Warner Bros. and Cavill, Johnson claimed that Seven Bucks Productions—which included himself, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia—had a significant influence.
